Paintings Works on paper In September 2007, the Goldman family began the daunting task of assembling, photographing, documenting, and cataloguing nearly every remaining painting, drawing, and sculpture created by the late Lester Goldman over a period of 40 years. The works number over a thousand and are being housed in a temporary warehouse space at 1619 Walnut in downtown Kansas City. On Saturday January 19 at 12:00 noon, the warehouse will be open to the public for a rare glimpse into the entire lifeís work of Lester Goldman. On display will be large-scale paintings, works on paper, and sculptural objects. The open house will conclude at 5:00 pm. The event signifies an introduction of many works to the public that were previously unknown. The monumental project was realized by Brad Nicholson, a close friend and patron of Lesterís; Lesterís wife, Kathrin Goldman; and an entire community of former students, friends, and family members. Lester Goldman was a Professor of Painting at the Kansas City Art Institute from 1966 until his death from cancer in September 2005. Goldman worked in paint, sculpture, performance/time-based media, and set design. He was a popular and influential teacher to many successful artists. The Goldman family invites Kansas City to witness the lifeís work of Lester Goldman, uniquely displayed in its entirety as it is transcribed into art history.
