Lester Goldman was among the initial group of artists selected to receive
a space at Review Studios. Goldman's health was failing at the time he
joined the Studios. He died in September 2005, before he was able to
fully utilize his studio at Review Studios. The space he shared with colleague
Warren Rosser continues to be underwritten in Goldman's name as a tribute
to his commitment to the Studios and the visual art community. Patrons
Steve Karbank in 2006, and Bishop McCann for 2007 support the studio's
cost through Review's Studios Patron program.
The exhibition is curated collaboratively by Goldman's family, Rosser,
and Review Studios' Director and artist Colby Smith. The paintings in
this exhibition were created between the late 1980s and the late 1990s.
Prior to his death Goldman personally selected the paintings in this show
for eventual exhibition.
"It's been an enlightening experience to learn more about Lester's creative process through Warren and the Goldman family's stories," says Smith. " Lester was a remarkably vital part of Kansas City's
art community, both as an artist and educator. The impression he made
on the art community can be seen through his contemporaries, his former students,
and those who collected his work. There is no doubt his contribution to the
growth and development of Review Studios would have been great."
Kathrin Goldman, Goldman's wife, intends to perpetuate his influence. "Through this exhibition, we hope to celebrate Lester's
work and keep his legacy in the public mind."
